Clinical Trials Shows Exceptional Results from Contoura™ Vision Topography Guided LASIK

Contoura Vision Topography Guided LASIKContoura Vision, also known as topography guided LASIK, is the latest laser vision correction treatment to gain approval from the FDA. This advanced treatment is like no other as its unique capabilities offer a greater degree of precision and personalization than other LASIK treatments. In this blog post, NYC LASIK surgeon Dr. Gregory Pamel discusses the advantages of topography guided LASIK over traditional laser vision correction techniques, as well as what clinical trials have found on Contoura.

About Topography Guided LASIK

ContouraTM Vision maps out the topography of the cornea to identity irregularities and has the ability to capture microscopic peaks and valleys on the cornea better than other laser vision correction technology. To compare, wavefront-guided LASIK is able to measure about 200 points of curvature of the cornea while topography guided LASIK is able to measure 22,000 points. The detailed data captured by Contoura’s advanced features allow it create an individual profile for each eye for personalized LASIK surgeries and better visual outcomes. Unlike other custom LASIK procedures that measure all parts of the eye, Contoura only focuses on the cornea, which is where the majority of imperfections that compromise vision are located.

While standard LASIK techniques have been able to treat patients with lower-order aberrations for years, Contoura’s state-of-the-art technology is able to treat both lower-order and higher-order aberrations. Results with Contoura also show a lower risk of side effects such as glare and halos.

What Clinical Trials Have Found

Contoura showed promising results in clinical trials. The procedure achieved an extremely high patient satisfaction rate, with 98.4 percent of patients reporting that they would choose the procedure again. Approximately 90 percent of patients achieved better vision without glasses after Contoura than they did with glasses before Contoura.

Contoura showed improvement of symptoms traditionally associated with traditional LASIK, including:

  • 6 percent decrease in light sensitivity
  • 4 percent decrease in difficulty driving at night
  • 4 percent decrease in reading difficulty
  • 4 percent decrease in glare
