Laser Vision Correction Options in NYC

For a long time, patients’ only recourse for dealing with refractive issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism was to wear prescription lenses. Now, patients have an additional option for decreasing their dependency on eyeglasses and contact lenses: laser vision correction. This relatively quick and easy option can improve the curvature of the cornea. With advanced surgical skills and the latest technological developments, Dr. Gregory Pamel can achieve transformative results for his patients.

Custom LASIK Eye Surgery

Dr. Pamel was NYC’s first ophthalmologist to offer the revolutionary Allegretto Wavelight laser. Because it is the most precise laser available, the Allegretto Wavelight allows Dr. Pamel to customize each LASIK surgery to maximize the improvement of vision. Moreover, the Allegretto Wavelight carefully monitors the position of the eyeball, immediately stopping the laser in case it moves mid-surgery. This makes LASIK, an already very safe procedure, that much safer. Most patients attain better than 20/20 vision after custom LASIK eye surgery.

Contoura Topography-Guided LASIK

Laser Vision Correction in NYCContoura™ Vision is unique technology that allows Dr. Pamel to track the curvature of the cornea at 22,000 points. By creating the most detailed map of the eyeball, he can better track and correct every tiny imperfection for the ultimate in vision correction.

Bladeless LASIK

While some ophthalmologists still use a blade to make the incision when performing laser vision correction surgery, Dr. Pamel was the first in New York to adopt the advanced Z LASIK system, which achieves better results without the need for a blade. What makes Z LASIK different from other bladeless procedures is that it requires less energy to create the flap on the cornea and is therefore gentler. This laser-created corneal flap heals more easily.

LASEK and PRK

Not all patients are good candidates for traditional LASIK, often due to an especially thin or poorly curved cornea. LASEK and PRK are two variations on laser correction surgery that can help a wider variety of patients. With LASEK, Dr. Pamel loosens and peels back the corneal epithelium to correct the curvature of the cornea. With PRK, he avoids making a flap by removing the epithelium altogether, which eventually grows back.
